    Adding a footnote that admits that the joke is too obscure for the general population does not improve the strip. Researching humor is like dissecting a frog: it provides information, but the subject tends to suffer from the process.

    1) I’ll bet it has other benefits, too.

    Alternatively, 2) So that’s why those drugs are ending up in our rivers.

    Actually, my doctor won’t allow me to have grapefruit or grapefruit juice because it interferes with my cholesterol meds.

    I enjoy obscure references, I always learn something new. Also, just because they’re obscure and I usually need to look them up doesn’t mean they’re not funny.

    Generally alcohol and grape fruit are off my list. Good thing they were never on my list of things to consume. One of the most oft shown scenes from “Public Enemy” and with the internet people who don’t know it can use it to find it.
