Oh I dunno Broomie Luv? I put out food and water early every morning for the cats in the neighborhood. When I first saw Rocky( HE turned out to be a she,when she brought around her two baby raccoons later in the year),when she first looked up at me with that look that says Please mister,I’m hungry,please don’t chase me away? I said help yourself Rocky.
The side note about raccoon intelligence reminds me of some researchers testing different animals for intelligence. Opossums registered as dumber than dumb… until one of the researchers remembered that opossums are nocturnal. They then tested them in a darkened room and discovered that they were quite smart. In the earlier tests, they hadn’t been dumb; they had been trying to sleep.
