Cat food costs about 1.50/lb. I can get chicken livers cheaper than that. Also chicken itself. Hams are on sale for .87/lb this week. The cat food thing is an urban legend or a failure to understand true costs.
Soon our elderly and disabled population will be reduced to getting cat food the way actual cats do: by running around the back yard trying to catch birds.
As I said before it is cheaper to cut funds and make them die that way than to take police resources and load them into cattle cars and ship somewhere else. They are doing one “better” than the German Nazis and Fascist Russians in no gulags, by killing without directly doing so. Making the families pay for their disposal. Murder and genocide has a cheap method now. And you won’t find one Right Wing conspiracy site mention it. They are too caught up in being afraid of the paper tiger called the United Nations to bother.
