It won’t be helping the environment either if the store also doesn’t use PAPER bags.

This just rankles me. Even way back in the ’70’s, when I was in the department store trade, the accountants were always trying to come up with ways to get people to pay for their supplies. Now they have the environmental card to play. Our local supermarket just started charging $.05 a bag and had signs up showing how plastic bags were strangling seals in the ocean. PUUULLEEEEZZEE stop patronizing me! We’re not that stupid- none of our bags get dumped in the ocean; most get recycled or reused in our municipality or, at worst, some end up in the landfill.

As one WALMART clerk said to me (when she didn’t charge me for the bag): “Is it worth it to alienate a customer for the sake of 5 cents?”

She’s got more smarts than the COO’s.

While it may be true, until you come up with an alternative you have to use some plastics, also you can make inviromentally friendly plastics that is biodegradable.

we are so into the ‘emperors new clothing’ syndrome that the culture will only see what it is told it ‘must see’ if it is to be ‘worthy’. we need a child to start telling the truth “but I don’t see any clothes on the emperor!” but even our children have become corrupted by the often repeated lie (half truths) and no longer wish to speak out in dissent as they are bullied and mocked and harassed if they do.
