    Real bad timing for this cartoon.

    Speaking for my family in India, nobody misses the Brits.

    One could reasonable observe that such greatness is not the cause of such failings, but rather the enabler of them. Strength does not need to be abused.

    This must be a recent poll of centenarians, or older, if they miss those days. Why must we insist on making today’s generation feel guilty about the supposed sins of their long gone ancestors. No country is free from some degree of nastiness in it’s long gone history. Instead of erasing it, changing it to make it more p.c. or demanding compensation for such long ago wrongs, we should study it and learn its lessons free of any recriminations.

    @PSCHEARER

    Read about Gandhi’s March to the Sea. Getting beaten up and jailed for making salt from sea water because you didn’t want to pay high taxes on something as essential as salt.

    You want to talk about gratitude, the Indians are still waiting for a thank you card for the 11 million Indians that served in the Imperial Army during WWII.

    It is interesting that the Asian country that advanced both economically and militarily the most from the mid 1800’s to WWII was the one country that wasn’t colonialized — Japan. Unfortunately for Korea and China, Japan followed the example of European powers and US and colonized its neighbors.

    Oh please, let’s not forget the Romans, Persians, Ottomans, Genghis Khan’s Mongols, and other empires over the centuries. It all happened and it’s done with. As man evolves the need for physical conquest goes away and is replaced by economical conquest. Man will always strive to improve his lot in life, sometimes at the the detriment of other’s. All we can do is attempt to protect ourselves and our own little tribes i.e. families.
