Evidence based laws seem to be beyond American politicians comprehension. Our two party “divide-a-country” system certainly abhors using data to make laws that benefit everyone and has resulted in the election of a leader who has no use for factual input.
@mikema50 Well, lies ARE lies, after all. But the question is whether trump lies volitionally or compulsively. If volitionally, then he’s simply a craven, relentless liar. However, if compulsively, we should consult the DSM 5. Simple observation strongly suggests his lying is a symptom of sociopathic mental illness, perhaps with ADHD, just to make things interesting. The entire administration is led by a malignant narcissist. Look up the symptoms in the latest DSM, or on the Mayo Clinic website.
Standing dare to trump supporters: Cite a single observable behavioral symptom from the DSM 5 list of symptoms of malignant narcissism that trump does not exhibit. Good luck.
And for those who want to take me up on my little dare, here are the DSM-5 criteria for narcissistic personality disorder. Do these characteristics remind you of anyone? If those trump supporters out there are honest, this list may be painful to consider. Honesty is in short supply, of course, for those who readily believe in obvious lies. One can always hope trump’s behavior is calculated and volitional, but it sure looks like a compulsion when he’s tweeting at 3am. So go ahead, prove the DSM-5 wrong. Don’t deflect by commenting on Obama. Don’t deflect by saying “they’re all narcissists.” Just address yourself to your (honest) observations about your Dear Leader. I know, I know, it’s a tall order to tell the truth, but give it a try, why don’t you.
Hey “John Locke,” why don’t you go first? Are you feeling brave and honest today? Here’s the list of DSM-5 malignant narcissist behaviors:
Having an exaggerated sense of self-importance
Expecting to be recognized as superior even without achievements that warrant it
Exaggerating your achievements and talents
Being preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate
Believing that you are superior and can only be understood by or associate with equally special people
Requiring constant admiration
Having a sense of entitlement
Expecting special favors and unquestioning compliance with your expectations
Taking advantage of others to get what you want
Having an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others
Being envious of others and believing others envy you
Mike5, in some instances I like alternative facts, speculative fiction of what might have happened had Germany won WW1 or WW2. Science Fiction is one of my favorites.
MikeFive: Alternative facts have been with us since we developed communication.
Ever notice the tabloids at the check-out stands? They obviously make money. Trump has simply realized that those who read such stuff are a potential voting bloc. Low thresholds of belief ( and correspondingly high thresholds of disbelief) are easily exploited.

Trump Baloney Company? So Jeff, the wurst is yet to come?
Shouldn’t the paper be yellow and brown? Because the journalistic quality is pee-poor and it’s just full of poop?

Now is a good time to read Why Orwell Matters by Christopher Hitchens if you haven’t yet.

Read this paper like you watch Fox, just understand that they are saying the opposite of what is actually happening.
