This is almost like a “Hal” joke . Remember Hal, the insane computer from “2001: A Space Odyssey”, who had a red laser eye and could read the lips of the human crew plotting to destroy him? Actually, maybe this storyline is a Hal joke.

Would have been funnier if panel 3 had had some kind of color-hold or “target” motif over it to indicate the robot was spying — if that’s what was happening.
