It’s so common a joke. So is it common for Americans to be fast asleep at midnight? I mean I myself have some doubts today about our 20mo, but I have no doubt the two teens and husband will stay up to 4-5am without problems (I’ll be probably the second of our family to go to bed because guess whom will the baby wake up in the morning?).
We used to get together with three other couples and just be. WE are all on the downhill side of sixty. By midnight, we’d all have on our coats. We’d watch the ball come down, kisses and hugs all around, and the house would be empty by 12:10.

To watch the ball drop in NYC here on the West Coast we only have to stay up until 9 PM.
