Cool, we are still discovering new things. Or is that supposed to be a bad thing?

Understanding evolves, but it’s driven by facts and evidence. If you have hard evidence and rigorously-derived results that show climate change is false, then publish and collect your Nobel prize. Pluto for example is the same as it ever was, but the definition of what constitutes a planet changed and it no longer qualified. I mean if you really want to discredit the scientific process so badly just start talking about phlogiston or the ether or something; but we know a lot more now than we did in the 18th century. See, this is why China and Russia are going to kick our asses going forward – they understand this and that’s why so many bleeding-edge papers now come from them. We’re no longer the leaders.

And let me put scientific illiteracy in terms even a conservative can understand. As China and Russia move ahead of us in science and engineering, it’s just a matter of time before they start coming up with top-secret applications of that science that we have no clue about. Military applications. Stuff that puts them light years ahead of us on the battlefield while we struggle with our cargo-cult level of understanding. If you want to keep American supremacy and exceptionalism alive, support science education.
