The insurance companies are the “death panels” that the far right, the billionaires and the insurance companies successfully brainwashed the people into believing that the government would be.

I know it’s picky, but “health care” is what you receive at the hospital. “Health insurance” is what you sign up for at work. “Health insurance” is how you determine who pays for “health care”.

Health care should be a free guaranteed human right.

As long as we continue with the insane policy that everyone should always be entitled to the the best possible healthcare, medical advances will continue at the amazing rate of the last fifty years, and medical costs will continue to grow until it consumes all the economy. At some point someone needs to be empowered to decide what we can afford and what we can’t. Should it be the government? Health care companies? Consumers? Those that believe it should be government favor a single payer system. Those that believe it should be health care companies favor Obamacare, or some variation. Those that believe it should be consumers favor health savings accounts. Pick your poison.

Your health care is a legal right, based on an entitlement program. It was granted by the government, and can be revoked by the same. In the U.S., we recognize human rights as being an innate part of who we are. These rights are recognized in (but not granted by) the Constitution, cannot be revoked by any power, and cannot even be given away.

I won’t argue the pros and cons of our different systems, nor am I saying that entitlement programs are necessarily wrong – only that there is a fundamental difference between legal and human rights.
