My paternal grandfather had been a widower for about ten years until he kicked the bucket. My maternal grandmother had been a widow for about four months until she kicked the bucket.
My grandmother just married again… her 5th…she out lived them all except the first who is also still alive and remarried 2nd time… difference is, they divorced each other the year I was born…43 yrs ago.
Having found true love in my late 60’s , I got a laugh from today’s strip. I think we both knew, on our very first “date” that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together.

We’ve been together over 3 years and legally wed for 2 years on Mon. Oct.17th
Never a regret.

There’s a lot to be said about finding love when you are mature enough to really enjoy and understand it.
I think its comforting having a “friend” at this stage in life. Just don’t get married cuz Uncle Sam will zap your Social Security like its nobody’s business. It is shameful how the gov’t preys upon the elderly. So most folks I know keep company and become great support systems for each other as they face failing health and growing older. This is shameful. So I hope next week he has the same answer for Elizabeth.
Lynn’s Notes:I have friends who live in seniors’ homes, and the number of connections made between the residents is heartwarming. What I never knew when I was young is that relationships can be exciting and fulfilling and romantic at any age. Thank goodness for that!

It would be odd indeed if I found someone at this stage. My prime days are long past.
My parents were government employees back when they had a separate retirement plan than Social Security. So she gets her retirements benefits, plus her widow’s benefit.
How social security and medicare work is that taxes collected from those currently working go right to the current recipients. There is no trust fund. During the 1950s there was a record number of births, and many people paying taxes, ergo social security recipients were “in the tall cotton”. However, with abortion the number of births has dropped, and there are far fewer people paying social security tax today, but many recipients. Self-employed (those who pay the full 12.4%) are rare. Unless there is another Baby Boom, social security and medicare is in doubt. It can be as popular as hotcakes, but that does not change the fact it is in trouble. It is impossible for abortion and social security to coexist. One or the other will have to go.
I played for the wedding of a friend’s Mom. She was 91, her husband was a younger man – only 87. They had 4 very happy years together until she passed. It was wonderful to see them both so happy. (But the ‘wedding’ was the ceremony only; they weren’t ‘legally’ married because they would have received less. And this is in Canada.)
