I’ve been called a few times, but not picked out for a jury. I’m highly skeptical about witness reports because I know how fallible human memory is. That gets me kicked off every time… lol
I’ve been called a few times but picked only once. Traffic court that day. BUT it was fun listening to all the excuses for why they were speeding. None of the jurors were buying them that day.
Last time I got called, I didn’t want to do it, so I used my hearing impairment as an excuse. All I have to do is pull one of my hearing aids out of one of my ears and show it to them. With them, I can function in most activities of daily life, but I still fail to understand a lot of spoken words. Without them, such as with a sudden breakdown or battery failure, I’m functionally deaf in comprehending normal speech. They said “bye” as soon as I showed them.

My Mom was called, to go into Manhattan. She lived up the Hudson about an hour away, and was on a walker. Her doctor was able to send a note that got her excused for health reasons. Picturing Mom going into NYC, barely able to walk, to find some courthouse, in a city with plenty of other people to select from, seemed a bit much. She’d have had no qualms if it had been near where she lived.I was called in to White Plains NY once, and could hear a woman complaining to someone next to her that they had dragged her all the way down from Broome County… Four or five hours away. Again- were there not enough people nearby in that densely populated area? I wonder how they pick names so far from the county.
Twice. Once we sent a guy up for life for murder of a City Marshall. The other time we found a guy not guilty of fomenting a riot in which a police car ended up on its roof. A funny story involving a lifelong feud between two guys; one a town yahoo, the other a policeman.
Only made it to the selection process once… for some kind of drug case, they asked me if I though pot should be legal (it wasn’t then in Colorado, it is now) and I told them I thought it was absolutely stupid that it wasn’t legal… I was kicked out of there in short order. .You don’t need to lie to get out of jury duty, just tell them how you really feel and one side or the other will likely boot your butt right out of there, especially if you have strong feelings for one side of the argument. They never even asked me if I could ignore my feelings on the matter to render an impartial verdict. I believe I could, but they never asked… just sent me to the door.

Never been called, I think my secret is that I don’t dread getting called up and would be happy to do it.

I’ve been called three times! But they all were settled before the trial date! So I’ve never done it!
