Birtherism was pretty much a dead letter in 2011 when Trump decided to make it his issue, and he has flogged it continuously until recently. He has declared that he would give $5M to the charity of choice of anyone who catches him backing away from that claim, so now he must owe a pretty penny to some lucky charity.
