Heh, up in my county, a quarterback who throws fifteen passes in a game means the coach is cutting loose. It’s usually “hand it 35 times to the lead back and 15 times to the backup back.”

When Johnny Vaught was coach of Ole Miss, the player he always tried to recruit with the best running ability was the quarterback, lest he be tempted actually to throw the ball.

Back when Pelwecki first asked about playing QB, why didn’t Gil at least watch him throw the ball and see what kind of arm he has? If he wanted to be a punter, would Gil refuse to watch him kick the ball? He’s being a jerk.

P1, Tru(e) dat Gil. After all you did let him play a little 2nd base even though from the size of him, catcher might have been a better spot. And really, if he had such a great arm, why wasn’t he pitching?

P2, Gil unhand that girl! Mimi will not be pleased.

P3, Wrong, you’ll start by handing off that giant beginners football over there. It’s like when you first learned to write and they had you use those monstrous pencils. Same thing here.

In all reality , OK Kevin ,get Bader over here and practice handing the ball off to him , he’s the only player ( get it) that can hang on to the giant football . Remember to wash your hands good when you’re done.

P2- With reassuring hand on the shoulder, Gil offers a disarming (Sorry Boonie) smile, “We can always use a Quarterback, so we’ll get you some reps today in the showers.”

Wow, this is like two straight days of Gil in his own strip, and today he’s got a speaking part in all three panels. I wonder if R & W can keep the streak going through Saturday.

Typical old-school Gil. Moose has already been talkin’ to the fellas, and they’re going to go 5-wide, with option reads. OMAHA! OMAHA, HUT HUT. Moose to Gil: " Who are you, Woody Hayes?"

Clearly “The Secret” should have had his eye on the RB position, which is the centerpiece of Milford’s offense.

Shouldn’t Moose be having this conversation with Heather?

P2…“Son, we don’t owe you s**t…you will play linebacker and like it or you can clean out your locker”

With his personality unchanged, Gil will take advantage of Barry being shunned by the Football team and use Armie’s old offense. Anyone remember the “Lonesome End”?

Okay, here’s my prediction. Moose gets his tryout. He starts throwing the ball at some point and sucks. But Heather approaches him about what he’s doing wrong and starts working with him on the side. Fixes his delivery. By the end of the year he’s all-conference. And speaking of a deliveries, today’s Mopped Up Thorp is delivered right to your screen simply by clicking on the link.

Uh, excuse me but wouldn’t Steve Boone be the logical choice for “hand off” drills?

Bitsy, that was my exact imaginary crowd noise when hitting a long one in Bas-Ket or rolling a 66 in APBA.

Our high school team in the 1980s ran the “stack I” - Quarterback, fullback, halfback and tailback with two tight ends…basically the old “T Formation” from 1940s - Passing was something that was done a handful of times a game. Got us to the state championships twice, though.
