Everything not prohibited is mandatory. The price of freedom is conformity. ♦speaker: “you’ve got to pay the price, you’ve got to sacrifice”audience member: “to whom or what is the price paid? And why is sacrifice necessary?”speaker: “now that is the kind of talk that will get you in BIG trouble buster! Security, take him away!”
“No refuge could save the hireling and slaveFrom the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth waveO’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.”
Remember, if you want to protest his protest, don’t burn a jersey, burn a cross.
We view Russian or Chinese patriotism as a threat. Why would they feel differently about American patriotism?Weren’t we enjoying more freedom before Patriot Act?
He has the right to do what he wants. The real problem is everyone else who want to make a federal case out of it because it offends their sensibilities. This should have been a trivial event instead of something that makes headlines.
Football is a game, a show of sport and not a place to impose one’s politics on viewers. The right to freedom of speech is suspended while being paid to perform.
It.. is a team sport. They all agree to rules and costumes. If standing at times is part of that custom.. and you want to sit it out.. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out. Simple solution.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color” -KaepernickI can see why Trump supporters are so angry at him. We have the right as individuals to choose to participate, or not, in the celebration of the national anthem. Where is the outrage when a black kid is shot? You were saving it for this?
I’ve noted it here before: I’m a disabled combat veteran. My son is a disabled combat veteran. Many of my friends are disabled combat veterans, others died in combat. I ALSO respect those who serve in VISTA, PEACE CORPS, and other forms of service to our nation, often at risk as great as in combat roles.
I HAVE defended the right of people to speak openly of their views. I ALSO defend the right of observers to call speakers out when their statements are pure BS, lies, or simple self-aggrandizing psychosis such as Trump’s, OR challenge obfuscations by other politicians or “media celebrities” avoiding addressing reality.
In an age of ’it’s all or nothing’ CK shows a remarkable amount of cluelessness. He is turning his back on everything that is right and everything that has gotten better since the days when that tangle on his head was fashionable. Of course there is Trump who would take the country back to the days that CK seems fixated on.
dtroutmaThe one glimmer of hope in this has been the way veteran organizations an\d individual veterans alike have been the first to defend Kaepernik. They served this country once and are still serving. Thanks to that action, we have another layer of protection over our liberties against the threat of a military dictatorship.
Yes, he has the right to make a political statement but not while wearing the uniform of an organization that does not agree with his political statement; that’s misrepresentation at the very least
This is ridiculous. At no point was the football player threatened with criminal or legal consequences. However, the team, the NFL, and the sponsors are all within their rights to drop him…

Patrick Henry said it best: “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!”

Customs are not set in stone. It’s like firing clerks who don’t say “Merry Christmas”.

He had a right and a reason to protest. Our Booboisie confuses rituals with religion, and puts way too much importance on both, understanding neither.

" a daily ritual of worshiping, singing songs and pledging allegiance to government."
Pretty much like religious ritual doctrines.
