I’ve known some dogs that could lick the back of their head, but never a cat.

If ‘The Woman’ would brush Elvis daily, there wouldn’t be any hairball. Also, there is food designed to prevent the problem.

I think of hairballs as coming from longhairs only. Never had one from a shorthair. Can you get a hairball from a Siamese?

Puck sympathizes with the Woman as she cleans it up. And shows his fangs when Elvis is tactless.

All of our short hair cats had the occasional hairball. The stairs was a big favorite.

I wonder if my longhair’s problem is hairballs.

Better to cough up hairball than the alternative. (Old Chinese proverb.)

Years ago when we had 3 cats & dog, our light gray carpeteventually looked like a Jackson Pollock painting. Could have cut it up in small sections & sold it as original art.

My poor hubby would invariably discover the (very rare) cold yucky hairball with his bare foot in the middle of the night, while on his way to the kitchen for a drink of water. (snicker, snicker)

I have a dog so I have no idea how many times the cats vomit. The dog is always on clean up patrol. Yuck.

I suspect hairballs are always beige-grey because they’re made up of the undercoat.

Most of my cats hairballs aren’t hair-they’re food because they eat too much at one sitting, and too fast! My I/O cat eats like a pig, throws up, then goes back to eat again. Do you think he would throw up outside? Hell, no, he comes in to throw up and makes sure he’s on a rug, not the kitchen floor. Ah, but I love him dearly so what can I do??
