Great timing; the World Science Fiction Convention is this weekend, and some of the vendors have very valuable items on their tables/booths. I’ve been to a few and this (at least in the past) is exactly right.
This is the only option, to hide merchandise from view. Vendors can’t pack everything up and bring it to their rooms or vehicles even if they wanted to bother to. Convention center contracts require merchandise to be moved to and from the tables by union workers.
