Urban blacks were excluded from public swimming pools in the 1930s by Jim Crow, north as well as south. While rural blacks might have had the occasional “swimming hole”, they also generally lacked the education to qualify, again by “separate but don’t be ridiculous”. Most of the early recruits were CAA licensed flying instructors. Get your information from reliable sources instead of white culture and racist stereotypes. I lived through that period and remember.
