He’s upset, perhaps, over the treatment of Green Party and Socialist hopefuls who wanted the Democratic Party to hand over all its resources, the way the GOP should hand over all its voters and institutions to the Tea Party. Because the purpose of a political party is to give power to a newer party.
The DNC platform has acknowledged that hateful speech is a constitutional right, however, it should be wholeheartedly condemned, using free speech. The RNC does not even have a platform but the party as a whole does consider money is an extension of speech. If they had their way they would remove the caps on campaign contributions and repeal McCain-Feingold. The Democratic party tramples on free-speech because they use free speech to tell bigots they are bigots, and they do not believe money is speech. Go figure the righties would be upset with this.
I’m not sure that Mr. Paine read it. It mentions issues having to do with speech in 3 instances:
1. Barring financial service regulators from becoming lobbyists for two years (p. 12)
2. Condemning (but not prohibiting) Donald Trump’s hateful words. (p.24)
3. Ending secret, unaccountable money in politics (page 25).
The only one that I take issue with is #3. I would prefer taxing political ads to limiting them. Then use the receipts to bolster public campaign financing.
The extremists have controlled the party platforms for decades now. Thank heavens Hillary will ignore most of the garbage in the Democratic platform and rely on common sense instead.

I guess a coherent, logical platform would, indeed, puzzle a GOP loyalist.

Honestly, Payne is actually defending Trump’s lunatic rantings?
Thomas R. Williams over 7 years ago
Does Payne believe he has a god-given right to shout “Fire!”in a theater? Or provoke gun crazies to assassinate elected officials?

So inciting violence, as Donald did do, is suddenly “free speech”?

I am so tired of the childish use of “Democrat” when “Democratic” would be more appropriate.
