^That’s always the question. We always bring up some bogey man to hate - the target changes from time to time, but the fact that there is a target hasn’t yet.

Oh, the white folks hate the black folks, And the black folks hate the white folks. To hate all but the right folks Is an old established rule.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week, Lena Horne and Sheriff Clarke are dancing cheek to cheek. It’s fun to eulogize The people you despise, As long as you don’t let ‘em in your school.

Oh, the poor folks hate the rich folks, And the rich folks hate the poor folks. All of my folks hate all of your folks, It’s American as apple pie.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week, New Yorkers love the Puerto Ricans ‘cause it’s very chic. Step up and shake the hand Of someone you can’t stand. You can tolerate him if you try.

Oh, the Protestants hate the Catholics, And the Catholics hate the Protestants, And the Hindus hate the Muslims, And everybody hates the Jews.

But during National Brotherhood Week, National Brotherhood Week, It’s National Everyone-smile-at-one-another-hood Week. Be nice to people who Are inferior to you. It’s only for a week, so have no fear. Be grateful that it doesn’t last all year! –Tom Lehrer

I have dream that Imam Rauf might one day mediate an intelligent debate between Glenn Beck & Rev. Wright.

It doesn’t take a liberal construction worker to build an Islamic Cultural Center. Just one who actually supports the U.S. constitution. Or, perhaps more to the point, one who wants a good-paying job.

I bet in NYC you could even hire a crew of Islamic construction workers. The conservative construction workers should be fine, they’ll still get their unemployment checks.

Okay, which religious sect was that guy who murdered a man in a Kansas church? He did it in the name of religion. Let’s hate every single member of that sect.

I assume all you Tom Lehrer lovers have his recorded oeuvre on your iPads/itunes. If you need copies let me know.

Songs and More Songs by Tom Lehrer and That Was the Year That Was.

They are shelved right next to my Jacques Brel.

if you were born on earth, you are (#1) human, and (#2) the descendant of the first man created by God, Adam, and you have the inherited genes and dna that all other humans have. One “Race of Man” and One Blood.

everything contrary to that Biblical truth is divisive, full of hate and definitely Satanic.

There’s a relatively new “Tom Lehrer Collection” that came out this year with freshly mastered songs, some rarities (ALL the Electric Company songs! Always liked “Silent E” and “LY”) and a videodisk of one of his performances. Apparently something that those of us on left and right can agree on. Not bad for a Harvard professor and sometime teacher of musical theatre, eh?
