The next question is “what is the temperature of the surface of the sidewalk”. I would suggest putting a black cast iron frypan on the sidewalk, wait 4 hours of steady sun and try it. If it works, you can then eat the egg.

My infra-red thermometer reads 90 degrees F. on the sidewalk in front of my house at 9:15 on this cloudy morning. I’ll check back periodically throughout the day.

Must be a true nerd indeed to take a rounded value in Celsius (70°C) and calculate something apparently exact as 158°F from it … :-D

During a heat wave just a few years ago, someone in my state actually did that, of course the ambient temperature was 109F and I live in a desert.
