Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Joan: How'd the vacation go? Val: Mixed. Val: The family balked when they saw how rustic the cabin was. Phil found a resort nearby. Val: But ALIX stayed and we were adventure girls together. Val: Phil and Holly loved the resort...but eventually felt guilty, so they came back for a cookout and campfire. Holly: O-kay... Joan: So...YOU never went to the resort? Val: After four days without a shower, I softened. Joan: And SMELLED. Hoo!

Shouldn’t need a shower to keep clean if you swim in a clean lake. However, the lake won’t give you the comforting warmth of a hot shower.

I always call “roughing-it” when I stay at a hotel that doesn’t have room service.

I’m able to backpack for a week w/o a shower. Soap and water and a washcloth does wonders!

Wonder if that lake was too cold to swim in? Then that resort would work for showers.

It’s summer and algae in most lakes gives your “bath” a distinctive vegetative aroma — for those who think that the lake is enough. And you shouldn’t be using soap or detergent in a lake, either…

So it was actually a great vacation where you got the best of both worlds? Why are you complaining, Val?
