I guess the more gun law theory is as bad and the NRA theory that more guns reduce crime. The number of guns in the country has grown dramatically over the last decade so we should all be quite safe, instead murders are dramatically increasing. On I-90 in Chicago there are shooting incidents every week where innocent people are getting wounded and killed by these nuts and gang bangers.

It;s a shame that a kind and caring professor was killed by a student over grades. There is a lot more pressure (too much) for excellence now than there was when I was an undergraduate student. I too have had students upset about their grades and am very grateful there was never a violent confrontation. I wish there was a simple solution to this problem. Not a good time to have a polarized government when there are so many issues that require cooperation and critical thinking.

CA doesn’t have rampant bathroom phobia and it was a murder/suicide.

The GOP would rather take care of a non-issue like where people are allowed to go to the bathroom, than a real problem like what we as a society can do about mass gun shootings. We see the gun apologists have already cried foul on any discussion about rational options.

ahabNever mind the Congress visitors gallery, I am surprised there have not been shootouts on the floor. There were some attempted in the 19th century (prevented by misfire, not cooler heads) and several fights with canes requiring hospitalization. Then we had a short period of civilization before sinking back into the mid 1800s..I note the upcoming convention has the same rule, likely to be openly broken. I hate to see the body count had it been a contested event.

Due to the proliferation of guns, any angry idiot can shoot anyone for any reason.

Canada does not seem to have the gun obsession and daily murder rate we do either. I think you hit the nail on the head “most of you 2nd amendment people seem to have humongous chips on your shoulders as if asking for responsible regulation was an infringement on your rights” all while the NRA is removing regulation and making new laws harder.

The shooter at UCLA had at least one legally acquired gun, committed a murder back home, a woman, then DROVE across the country and shot a professor and himself. Local “gun laws” are a problem, not the solution, FEDERAL regulations, where they can keep records for over five days (like the NRA and gun makers can, but the Feds can’t) as restricted by the “Brady Law” the Republicans defanged.

FEDERAL law should require background checks, renewed every four years for concealed carry as my state does, and PROOF the buyer has had training in firearms use, and more importantly, the ETHCIAL use of firearms on when to shoot and when NOT to! “Stand your ground” laws should be limited as Scalia noted in DC vs Heller; in YOUR HOME, the right to possess arms is guaranteed, just as the RESPONSIBILITY OF GOVERNMENT IS TO REGULATE FIREARMS WHEN YOU GO OUTSIDE YOUR HOME. If you are outside in public or ON OTHER PEOPLES’ PROPERTY (As Zimmerman was), “stand your ground” should be “beat feet if you can!” And DON’T START A FIGHT!
