Frazz: I'm still knackered from yesterday's run.
Mr. Spaetzle: Maybe exhaustion is your body sending you a signal.
Frazz: It's definitely my body sending a signal.
Mr. Spaetzle: And that signal might be *race flag*
Frazz: The signal I'm hearing is "bell lap".

See Frazz run. Run, Frazz, run. See Frazz get a stitch. Stich, stich, stich. Gasp, Frazz, gasp. See Frazz fall. Fall, Frazz, fall. Next time, take a break!

Why are you people using Frazz for this tirade? There are other blogs, public sites, etc. Take this kind of blather and the sermonizing someplace where it doesn’t spoil the comics – the one thing each day that helps lighten the load of tripe and depressing news that comprises most American media.

For those who may not know, in swimming, the “bell lap” is the last lap of a long-distance race. As the swimmer comes in to the wall with one lap to go, a bell is rung over the swimmer’s head to let him/her know. The swimmer then usually goes all out with whatever is left to finish the race.

Apparently there’s been someone posting rants on all the strips. No idea why.

Only an hour or two until bigpuma’s rant about how “preachy” he thinks Frazz is.

Several things:I seldom see a person out running while smilingThere are but two legitimate [natural] reasons to run:1. To catch something to eat.2. To avoid being caught by a predator; see reason one. When you observe a lion which is not running to catch an antelope it is lying under a tree sleeping. The antelope when not being pursued by the lion is munching grass.Running is not natural but sometimes necessary. It can be very hard on the knees, hips and many other body parts and in the end is just plain boring IMHO of course.

Jim Fixx died of a heart attack at age 52. His father had died of one at age 43 after a previous attack at age 35. Jim Fixx probably lived an extra 10 years because of his devotion to exercise.

Slow Runners Come Out Ahead
That being said, how much exercise and how fast is going to differ from person to person.
According to several exercise web sites I’ve seen, if you are doing endurance training and find yourself getting sicker more often (colds, flu), you are overexerting yourself.
The bottom line – listen to your body. It will tell you how much is enough.

A white flag in Nascar is used to signal the lead driver of their final lap (Thank you, CARS!). Too bad Frazz could not have used that in response to Mr. S’s checkered flag, but ,I, the reader would have thought of “surrender” before “final lap”.

comicsssfanI don’t think knackered is a cognate of knockered, in spite of how your mind works.

Knackered is a British term. I didn’t know Frazz was British. I guess I’m gonna have to read this comic with an English accent now…

@comicsssfan. We used the word knackers when referring to our testicles in the 60’s. Don’t know if its still used today.

Yeah, I used to run 3-5 miles a day, plus played racquetball a couple times a week. Plus, shot hoops. Eventually, my knees and ankles betrayed me. Now I just walk the dog twice a day. We’re both in the pink!

I mentioned this in another reply, but there are multiple studies proving running makes your knees healthier and helps them last longer.

Richard S. Russell My 80-year-old legs were given me a quarter century ago by an idiot in a Chevy Caprice (ironic name) who thought 50+ mph was a proper speed for running a red light in downtown Dallas.
