You can show all the historical and rhetorical reasons socialism fails but you will never convince those who are sold on it because they keep saying it will be different this time . We know what we are doing and those guys were doing it wrong that’s why they failed. We have it all figured out just put us in charge and you’ll see how great it will be. Viva la Utopia!
Comparing Bernie’s form of social democracy, where government and capitalism work in harmony for the good of the people, to Venezuela is like comparing capitalism to Somalia and other bandit states where there is minimal government oversight and little restriction on free enterprise. They are two different things; they are just not comparable. Does make a good talking point for convincing the ideologues, however.
Dedicated authoritarian socialists and dedicated libertarians have the same problem: neither can point to a perfect example of their political philosophy in action, because every place that tries either philosophy turns into a hell-hole. That said, Bernie’s style of democratic socialism is very different from what was tried in Venezuela, and there are numerous success stories throughout the world.
