Gil Thorp by Henry Barajas and Rod Whigham for June 10, 2016

And to wmac8898 from yesterday … eesh. You’re looking at this from third-person omniscient viewpoint. Who the heck is going to know about, let alone find, the driver/s who flashed lights at Del? “Yeah, I flashed my lights at a random dude on the highway” is lousy testimony, even if it wasn’t itself illegal to do. They aren’t necessarily going to do a blood test on Del — for one thing, if he’s injured badly enough, he’s going straight to the hospital — and he has every incentive not to tell the cops about the restaurant at which he was chugging..As to Boo moving the car, she was steeling herself to do so. It doesn’t look like she actually did. There’s also no reason to believe there were spectators, and obviously the road was dimly lit. A convenience store might have a security camera trained on the lot, but of course not on the highway.

And to Chip, going back to June 4th comments … yep, Neil Cray had a girlfriend who was about 4’11", long black hair. I’m trying to remember her name, but what I mostly recall is that she was very much into Neil living his dream, come what may, and Neil’s mother resented the hell out of her existence.

This was an amusing and cute courtship, Boo and True. But just as in life, we get thrown curves. I didn’t see this ending coming, but it has sent a strong message about drinking and driving. It would be easy to write real fluffy, light story lines, but that sadly is often not the case in reality.

Kudos to the writers of GT for not taking the easy way out.

Neil had a heart condition, right? Living the dream…I recall that. Nothing else from the storyline. Was it basketball, tall, skinny kid?

If there was anybody left on the baseball team that still kinda liked Young Master Bader, this should finish that off. Questions. Did Del survive and who was driving the pickup? My vote goes to Marty.

Nice to see Gil’s armpit adding to the conversation in P2.

Gil, these are teenagers you’re talking about. I thought when Gil got the phone call yesterday it might have been Tru(e) calling to tell Gil and Mimi what happened. Even in this Milford from the 60’s news, especially news like this travels fast among school kids. If this was modern times, all it takes are a few tapped keys and the whole school knows what’s up.

Following up on my comment from yesterday about the 3 local kids that died in an accident this week. It turned out, the driver was the grandson of a friend of mine. Kudos to Rubin and Whigham though for unexpectedly throwing some real life at us.

Jinkies. If Mimi could pour out THAT MUCH emotion for a player she’s known for a year, think of the river she would start if she remembered Jami, Keri and Toto.

The past two days Gil has borne an uncanny resemblance to Larry Pennell (aka “Dash Riprock”).

    Most notably panel one yesterday.

This is sad, but it is life. Mark my words as we read this strip. In almost every community some young person will die as the summer begins from either an accident , drowning or some act of fate. It happens every year.

Given that Del is presumably legally very much drunk, I would think he’s in very big trouble (assuming he lives) regardless of his headlights. Especially if the impact indicates he was speeding, but even if it doesn’t.

So, there’s a multi-car accident involving at least one fatality. The police notifies the family, and then calls the school district Superintendent Principal Athletic Director to inform him of a student’s death, and tells him the names of other people involved in the accident. How does Chief Wiggum Lind keep his job? And speaking of accidents, it’s no accident that today’s Mopped Up Thorp is ready. (Did that even make sense? Eh, whatever.)

Wouldn’t seem right if the Thorp children didn’t attend the funeral with Gil and Mimi. At least a gratuitous crowd shot appearance.

“Hi Mr. and Mrs. Radley. You don’t know me but I coached Boo in softball for the past two years and watched her grow from an angry, rebellious out-of-control pitcher to a less angry, less rebellious pitcher who only nailed batters when she really wanted to thanks to briefly dating the starting quarterback.”

Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for Gil to tell Tru(E)‘s father? It’s not necessarily his role to deliver news like that himself. Thoughts?

Oh no, maybe this is all my fault. All those birds I had on Boo’s head before? I was mocking her? To Kill a Mockingbird? This is Rub-ham’s way of getting back at me. Sorry everyone!

Apparently, you refer to the deceased by both the given name and the nickname. I base that conclusion on the Addison “Boo” Radley obituary.

‘Twas not I. Someone posted the link last night on The Comics Curmudgeon, but I don’t know whether that person created the page. As I mentioned yesterday, over 14K people have Gil Thorp as one of the strips on their GoComics page, to say nothing of how many people read the strip some other way, so there must be a lot of mourners out there.
