Coal is on the way out. Once again the Right is saying that Hillary is singlehandedly destroying the coal industry. The same way they say her’s was the only vote for the Iraq war and that she was the only one responsible for every other ill in the last 30 years including volcanoes and earthquakes.

@NeedsaChuckle – I agree with you. The prevalence of Natural Gas and the desire for cleaner energy sources has made Coal less necessary. That being said – If you are a coal miner and you are watching your company dwindle and die – Do you really want your Government Official saying “We are going to Kill your industry”?

She wrote off the People of West Virginia as unimportant by saying that. Apparently the only voters important to her are the Tree Huggers.

Actually the tree huggers are really the only ones who count—it’s either coal miners’ jobs(and many others’)or the ruination of our entire planet. “And that’s the way it is….”

Once again the sound bite is not the complete statement. What a difference a few words can make.

@greenearthman – and so the hyperbole begins.

Coal as an energy source is getting obsolete fast. Those coal mining jobs are NOT coming back no matter who wins. On the other hand.. the trade war that Trump will start will revert the economy back to what it was at the end of the last Republican term. Try.. to think back that far when you vote.

Republicons would prefer that you keep slaving in their mine.

They should take that hand, the Democrats help blue-collar working folks, while the Republicans will make them pay for the boot straps they’ll be expected to pull themselves up by. Clinton has a plan to help coal country with a $30 billion plan to revitalize the region’s economy. Trump meanwhile has no plan but in general he will make coal huge, and everything will be great. At this point you may be thinking the Democrats will be the ones to help these coal miners, but then they switch the debate to abortion and their true goal is relieved, they weren’t going to vote Democrat anyway.Keep voting for the right wing lackey who only say NO to helping people who are in crisis, and pretend like its the left’s fault. Good plan, maybe you’ll get a Presidential candidate on your side that you can be proud of.

Oh, gosh, that’s a little different. Why didn’t Varvel include more of what she actually said?

Thanks, Martens. Always good to have context. I find Hillary’s comments regarding coal communities to be compelling and thoughtful.

Thanks for presenting the facts of Hillary Clinton’s speech to West Virginians. Sadly, some people only hear just what they want to hear

Just another shoddy effort from Varvel, trying to demonstrate his Conservative “Chops!”

Varvel, you should be ashamed. The FULL quotation from Hillary shows her concern for the miners and says we should not forget their sacrifices while the coal industry is winding down because of market forces.

Excessive regulation by the current administration has caused coal to become more expensive. Guess what, CO2 is not a pollutant and should not be regulated by the EPA.
