Nope I am with Monty! When you see a sign that says the lane your in closes 2 miles or 1 mile ahead and traffic is still flowing get over! Don’t expect those of us that pay attention to let you in when you speed way up and then want to cut over and push in front of those us smart enough to think ahead when you run up on the barricades!!!

This driving style can be found all over the world in most cities. It is the neoliberal one, formerly known as egoistical behaviour. Thanks to the big companies and their stooges Ronald Reagan, Margret Thatcher, and others around the world for morphing the society to monetarism. There are many more stooges today supporting the dictatorship of the rich, so you have a large number of #%&§!s to be thankful to for living in this kind of society.

I have to use cruise control on the highway because I’m in no hurry and find myself doing 50MPH or so. This is while everyone is doing 85MPH till they come to an accident then they all slow down to 20MPH. No lanes closed or anything, rubbernecking.

Don’t do it! It’s a Subaru. They pulled out of line several cars back and are now hoping they can squeeze in front of everyone else. Once there, they will proceed to check their email or texts and neglect to move up for minutes at a time.

As a New Jersey native now in Connecticut, this is something I have noticed on my commute to Hartford. There are several sections where there is a heavy merge, including a couple where someone merging from the left will have to cross two lanes to quickly exit on the right.Drivers leave gaps, and allow people to cut in front, and alternate-merge, all as a matter of course. Never happen in Jersey.Of course, later in the rush-hour things get a bit more tense, but still generally civil. Go figure. (Caution: Does not apply in Fairfield County, home of NYC commuters).

My favorite are the a-holes who signal for a lane change after they’ve already cut you off!

It is actually more efficient (in terms of traffic flow) to merge at the point where one lane ends.

Pennsylvania has been described as Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh in the west, and Alabama in between. But in central PA, where i live, the drivers are so civilized about getting out of closed lanes that the traffic department sometimes puts up signs that say Lane Closed Ahead. Use Both Lanes Till Merge. And at the merge, another sign saying Take Turns Merging. And we do! And did you ever pull up to a toll booth and find that the stranger in the car ahead of you has already paid your toll? Nice.

When does the cop show up to remind Monty and robot that merging traffic has the right-of-way?

Meh. If one drives on our local expressways, one sees this kind of thing every day, so E.B. needs to prepare for it.But I agree that Monty is an appallingly bad driving instructor!
