Balance has input from 3 places: vision, semicircular canals in the inner ear and proprioception (sense of body in space). If any 2 are working, you can maintain your balance. Get down to 1 and forget it.
Aristotle counted the five senses that provide knowledge of the external world. There are others more inward, but he was interested in explaining knowledge in general. I’m sure he was aware of proprioception, nausea, various forms of pain, etc.
