Without culling the herd outgrows its food supply, and die-offs begin due to disease and starvation. Would he rather Bambi expired slowly, painfully from malnutrition?
Instead of hunting the best animals, why aren’t deer licenses for the oldest, weakest in the herd? You’ll improve the genetics for future generations.
Or you could not kill wolves and let natural predators take care of herd size.
