The state of Tennessee is trying to make the Qur’an the official book of the state. This travesty must be stopped! There is no room in government for religion and we aren’t all Muslims.Oh, it was the Bible? Why would they stop that? This is an outrage and a violation of my rights!

But just barely Clay. And there will be future attempts to overcome the rule of law.

“NASHVILLE, Tennessee — The governor of Tennessee vetoed legislation Thursday that would have made the Christian Bible the state’s official book, saying it would violate the U.S. Constitution, but lawmakers vowed to hold a vote to overrule his decision.

In a letter notifying top state lawmakers of his intent to veto the legislation, Gov. Bill Haslam, himself a Christian, said the proposal violated religious freedoms enshrined in both the U.S. and Tennessee constitutions.

“My personal feeling is that this bill trivializes the Bible, which I believe is sacred text,” Haslam, a Republican, wrote.

The veto comes a week after the state Senate voted to make the Bible the state’s official book. That vote followed the state House’s approval last year."

Geo. Washington exchanged many letters with Europeans touting the worthiness of their religious sects over others. He stated that under no uncertain terms was the US established to promote any religion over any others. While he often stated his own faith in God, he also demanded that Americans not allow the separations and religious conflicts that so dominated Europe and North Africa to gain a foothold in our nation.Tennessee’s desire to make the bible the state book is tantamount to making Christianity the state religion. This is expressly forbidden by the Constitution. God wants us to set and example so good that others will want to emulate us, to be like us. “Let your light shine…” says the bible. Jesus did not ORDER anyone to follow him, but he did say we would be happier if we did. Jesus did not teach out of a bible, nor was he a Christian. He showed us an example of tolerance and love, only showing anger at the Pharisees – who he called hypocrites, and the moneychangers – the hedgefund managers/bankers of his day, who he chased from the temple. To the rest of us he said, ‘love your neighbor as yourself."I do not believe Jesus would approve of the path the Tenn. legislature is taking. It is a path more likely to drive ppl away from God than to Him. You cannot legislate ’faith’.Respectfully,C.

I believe there’ve only been a few exceptions for members of Congress swearing in on the bible. “So help me God”, btw is NOT in the oath in the Constitution, Washington threw it in on his own volition.

The religious right, a numerical minority btw, is intent on turning the US into a theocracy, just as they’ve done a good job of starting wars against Islam, and of course and denying women’s rights at every opportunity to inflict bible verse on law.
