Beetle originally joined the army because he was drafted for the Korean War, so that gives you some idea. (Also his strip is a spinoff of Hi & Lois, so that’s even older.)

I have never understood Sarge’s hat. What is that based on? Most Sargents in the Army wear a broad brimmed hat or a camo cap.
