I don’t know of any rebels who do NOT have tattoos.

a lot of people are getting tattoos. and if a lot of people she’s seen have them then it would be even more of a rebellion to NOT get one. BUT she said Never ever NEVER, since she’s such an academic she’s specifically using a double negative, so she IS planning to get a tattoo.

That was two x never, so she is obviously getting one. Also whats the issue with tattoos? Also please … The way she is portrayed she isnt going to be a rebel.

@Gigantor Hear, hear! I’m not against tattoos per se, but I’m reluctant to etch something into my skin unless it has a particular meaning for me.

My oldest got her first tattoo a few weeks ago…a nice inspirational quote that holds significant meaning for her. It’s quite pretty. Then my youngest came to visit and I noticed that she had two tattoos! that she had not mentioned to me. I asked her way and she said "I know how you feel about tattoos Mom! The other girl chimed in with “Yeah, you always talked bad about tattoos when we were kids.” I looked at them in amazement (they are 33 and 30) and then grinned “Times change and you are no longer brain-dead teenagers.”

Tattoos are becoming mainstream – so I think the idea is when she is older, NOT having a tattoo will be going against the flow! IMHO

    Primitive self mutilation, like piercings.

When I used to ride motorcycles, I always joked about being the only biker without tats. That was my way of rebelling.

I have had a pierced ear for over 50 years – long before that was fashionable but never felt the need to express myself by permanently inking my body.

Tattoos are a mark (literally) of conformity. Young people can’t seem to see that, and imagine that they’ve something to do with rebellion. As Habogee points out, tattoos and piercings are primitive body-disfigurement rituals. O, the things young people will do to be different — just like all their friends. And yes, I’m of an age where tattoos and piercings are expected of me and no, it never seemed to me like a good idea, not even when I was a teenager.

Every one of my tattoos has a special meaning to me – I would never permanently alter my body with something just because it looked good.
