In those days, the goal post was firmly connected to the ground in two places, and it was set right at the goal line instead of ten yards back.

What strikes me is the correct grammar, feel badly. When I was a kid, someone might have corrected me if I said “feel bad”. Now it’s mainstream.

Kicking left-footed?

Either “…bigger than we are” or “…bigger than we” would be correct.

Note how Shermy (?) thinks first of college football. That was normal in those days; professional football existed, but it didn’t become the big thing until around the 60s. Maybe it was a question of TV contracts.
