My most interesting & best confession was while doing laps around the grounds of the church my confessor was the pastor of. He liked to walk so we walked the property while I was giving my confession. It was totally private and to anyone else it looked like two men walking around the church grounds. It certainly beats a confessional box.
I’m guessing Monsignor Gruff is a harsh confessor, and Brother Leo is starting the kids off with a kinder, gentler confessional. More people would go to confession if they viewed their confessor as a confidant instead of an inquisitioner.
