Irving: You don't know what it's like for me to have to listen to you say you DO know what it's life for me because you DON'T know what it's like for me!! Cathy: Oh, poor baby, no one in the world but you will ever have any idea what THAT feels like! Irving: ...Really?? You agree? Cathy: Sometimes there's nothing more comforting than being reassured we're all alone. Irving: Thanks! I feel better.

How would Cathy know anything about her Job? She’s been at it, what? Maybe 2 times this entire year? And all she did when she was there was brag about the weight that she gained during vacation!
At least we can assume that Irving works everyday because him at work has never been drawn as part of the strip…

Oh good, the dogs are back, even if it’s just for a little bit until the strip ends. I will miss them…..the dogs I mean.

I have to agree with Irving. Speaking as a woman, we can’t really understand how a man’s whole identity is wrapped up in his job. We females might worry about how we’re going to pay for things, but we don’t feel less of a woman for losing a job. We derive our self image in other ways - relationships, where we live, our physical attractiveness, etc.
