If our education system were better, editorial cartoonists would understand the difference between Democratic Socialist and Communist.

We Americans should realize that we should take the best parts of every system of government and incorporate it. If we were true Capitalists, one would have to pay out of pocket for our children’s education or leave it to the churches…like was done in the early days of our nation. People whined when grades 9-12 were made free via taxes, now Bernie wants to make 13 & 14 part of the system….Great! Still optional and focused on a specific career path…

Ladies and Gents, please do not allow yourselves to be misled further. Socialism is not communism. Bernie is not asking for us to redistribute anything. America has been a socialist nation since before 1776. Public schools, libraries, hospitals, roads, water systems, transportation systems, police & fire departments, they are ALL socialist programs.Apparently Benson never finished 8th grade civics.

If our education system were better people would learn something about Marx and about socialism before making silly comments.

I started college in 1962 and my tuition, including all the fees etc was $79 a quarter, and that included renting all the books needed for our courses. A lady told me the other day that free college ( Bernie Sander’s idea) was unfair to those who had already worked two jobs to get themselves through college. The kids going to college now should put some “sweat equity” into it, like she did. I guess she hasn’t checked out how far the wages on those two jobs would go toward college expenses now………………………………………. We have created a caste system. First, the poorer you are the worst schools your kids can go to. Then if they manage to get into college anyway, it will take 10 years, going part time and working two jobs to pay for it. So when they graduate, in their mid thirties, with a bunch of student debt, how are they going to accumulate the money to send their own kids to college?

“O, the cartoon is correct. BERNIE, the “Benevolent Bunny”, has just confiscated the RICH (the 1%’s property) egg gathering corporation because his rules are you cannot have more than others. Now he will take those ill-gotten gains back to his rabbit hole and enjoy the fruits of his Socialist Ideology like CHINA while everyone else will have the same basic egg.”

    You actually believe this, Pook?

They like the old system better which would be the one little kid skipping away with all the eggs after paying all the other kids a below living wage to collect them for him. Tax laws, the breaking up of unions, voter repression, citizen united, etc all favor the one kid. Lisa would be the government taking a bribe from the one kid because after all money is free speech! What is best is in the middle. A large middle class is good for the economy and democracy. If folks were better educated they’d see how badly they’ve been screwed in the last 40 years or so by DEregulated “Capitalism” run by the Trumps, Scaifes, Kochs, AEI, Heritage Foundation, and all the other untaxed “think tanks” supported by their alleged “generosity and giving”, that only increased their profits. Then of course, there’s also job exportation, flat salaries maintained while CEO salaries and corporate profits soared.

Now what’s the real problem with Democratic Socialism??

The current system the kid with all the eggs started with 1/2 the eggs in his basket and was given a head start. At the end of the hunt all of the other children will give their eggs over to the one with the most eggs. When that one child is done he will trickle down the remainder of his loot (all those smarties and coconut candies) to the remaining children. Sorry, looks like once again this year there was no trickle down, and that mean old rabbit wants to make sure every child got one egg. When will you learn America wants the winner to win, and giving away eggs he never had to look for or had unfettered access to is just wrong – he should have those kids hunt for him next year – if it weren’t for Obama care trying to drive him out of business. Have fun at your Easter Egg hunts, I’ll be looking forward to hearing the right wing tales of how one child got all the candy in their family and how fair and American it made everyone feel.

I don’t know about you Progressives but I don’t want Bernie Sanders and his Foolish followers deciding for me how much of my earnings and savings I should be allowed to keep.

Bernie Sanders appeals to the people who don’t think our economic system has treated them fairly and so they are looking for a way to use the government to take what they believe they so richly deserve.

I think you will find very few Sanders supporters amongst those of us who have degrees of value (Mostly BS and MS but there are a few in the BA and MA category). Because we are reaping the rewards of developing sought after skills.

But I bet you will find plenty of Sanders supporters among those who are high school dropouts or have useless degrees.

The game isn’t rigged. Everyone knew up front that those who worked hard in college and got degrees in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (The hard sciences) that they would be OK after school. We all knew people getting useless degrees who are now struggling.

The old system? you mean where 99 kids search for 10 hours to find 1 egg for all of them and 1 kid gets up,goes down stairs where there’s a basket with 99 eggs in it waiting ?

Some of the arguments I read here remind me of that time when I was a teenager and during an argument I told my aunt that Jesus and his disciples were practising communists. I thought she’d faint, she was that enraged. You have to understand that 50 years ago she was sure all my highschool teachers were Commies. Heck, my history teacher was a practising Republican. He would have found it funny.
