My grandfather would find a snake in the henhouse, grab it by the tail, and crack it like a bull whip. My dad was a little boy, but he said that first crack would pop the head off of the snake.

The Late and Unlamented was as bad as six women when he saw a snake. I was always the one who had to come and pick them up to carry out of the house.

Whenever my cousin caught a snake, he would toss it into his corn crib to catch mice.

I caught a snake eating one of my chicken’s eggs. He was embarrassed because I caught him with the egg half in and half out, and he couldn’t do anything. I took the egg and send the snake on his way. He needs to stick to our deal, I get the eggs. He gets the mice.

That kid looks like her hair got caught in a fan, as my grandmother used to say. Can’t her mom cut a straight line?

I think it was a kindness Meg letting the snake go about it’s business and not killing it.

And she should wear thick leather gloves. Even if the snake is not poisonous, a bite can still hurt.

In real life, we can’t help being ugly, so we accept each other as we are. But in comics, Meg deserves better. C’mon, Jimmy. Help the poor girl out.

I remind people that they are not really different from us: just looking for something to eat, a safe, warm place to hang out and someone to hang out with. And if the word “snake” bothers you, change it. Around here they are “Garys” as in “Hey! Look at that Gary go through the grass…”

Lived in the south for awhile and had those babies hanging from the trees while setting a trot line. Ugh.

Meg’s snake seems harmless, but she didn’t know, fumbling around in the straw, that it wasn’t a rattler. Yikes!

We went to the movies, and were in the lobby afterward. In walks a man with a snake wrapped around his arm. It was about 3" around and 4’ long. I’m so terrified of snakes that when he got close to me I ran to “the door”, which was in fact a plate glass window. Thank goodness they are hard to break. I was so freaked I honestly don’t know what happened to the man or the snake, but my sweet hubby got me out and into the car. People should be more considerate. What if I had a bum ticker? (People are bringing all sorts of pets into all stores now)

Better than barefoot. And don’t drop your gum in the chickenhouse. When I did that I thought I found it 3 times . ;)

Best way to ID a Poisonous snake is with a shotgun, after you blow its head off, well then who cares if it’s poisonous.

Reminds me of my daughter at about the same age I had a pet snake. Once she understood about the “circle of life” she had no problems with it eating mice and even started feeding it. And do not worry ladylagomorph76 out of respect for those who didn’t like snakes I never took it out in public places.

Before I started school (age 4-ish?) I was in the creek behind the house. I saw this tubular thing, curved, sticking out of the water, with it’s mouth open & it’s forked tongue going in & out. I asked my sister (on the other side of me) what it was. She screamed. My Dad jumped in & threw us out of the water. That’s when I found out what a cottonmouth water moccasin looked like. Later I asked where the “wocasin” went, but nobody would say. So I don’t know if it got away or if Dad somehow chased it down.
