How did Blaze become “convinced” to cooperate ?

Notta clobbered her. It was pretty convincing. As AnyFace says, she looks kind of defeated. She didn’t want to help with Notta’s plan, but Notta really didn’t give her a choice. I think she cares too much for Notta to leave, and anyway, Notta wouldn’t let her leave.

When we last left the brave crew of the Enterprise they were enduring the effects in Mr. Spock being Drunk and in heat! Also Captain Kirk once again enraged Mad Mysta Mindy by abandoning her before discussing the M word.

“Jim, how did you get Mindy to let you beam back to the ship?”“Bones, let’s just say we agreed to disagree regarding how long I needed to stay”!“Good God man, that’s all we need; a horny drunk Vulcan and a jilted Moonie!”“How is Spock? "“Well, for the time being we’ve managed to keep him somewhat relaxed but unfortunately Chapels pet Tribble will never be the same!”“Poor thing, we’ll have to erect a plaque recognizing it’s sacrifice!”

Suddenly the ship jolted from the impact of several Moonepedo’s.

""Captain, the Moonies are attacking us again. We can’t survive another hit!"“Scotty, do what you can to strengthen the shields!”“Jim, you’ve got to suck it up and finish what you started with Mindy”!“Captain, the Moon ship is hailing us!”“I’m on my way to the bridge. Uhura, stall them by singing a song”!“Jim, I don’t want to die because you’re a whimp”!“Captain on bridge! "“Mysta sweetie, I had to take care of something important. You know I love you”!“ENOUGH! I’ve had it with your lies. Unless you meet our finest warrior in combat I’ll destroy your ship!”.“Sure, no problem, who’s the Swiss cheese chump? "Mysta smiled a sinister grin.“Him!”Gasps and expressions of shock moved like waves among the bridge crew.“It can’t be! Mysta, HIM?”“Yes Kirk, in order for you and your crew to live you must defeat DICK TRACY!”

She appears to be moving about freely, enough to grab a foreign object to use against Notta.

She could, but like I said, she’s in love with Notta, so she has to go along with Notta’s plan if she wants to stay with her, which she does. She tried to talk Notta out of it, but that didn’t go well for her at all.

Blaze was beaten into submission, but only for the time being perhaps. She might be waiting for the right time to strike back.

Wonder if Notta loves her back or is just stringing her along.

Notta is difficult to read. She never reveals much about her emotions, but she is cold and calculating and single-minded in her purpose. We haven’t seen much, as far as I can recall, that she’s manipulative, but I believe it was Notta who started the flirtation between the two women.

I believe it was said or implied at one time that Blaze was a professional dominatrix. She may have switched roles, since in this relationship, she definitely seems to be submissive. As a submissive, she may actually want to be dominated at times.

Looks like Bob Hope and Dick Tracy had more in common than I’d thought …

Clearly, Blaze was expecting Putty Puss’ arrival, so it’s apparently all part of Notta’s plan. It has to be Notta that hired him.

Joe’s caricature of Bob Hope looks like a tribute to the late, great DC artist Bob Oskner who drew The Adventures of Bob Hope in the 1950s and 1960s. Oskner also worked on Supergirl, Superman, Lois Lane, The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, Jerry Lewis Comics, as well as many “Teen” comics and “Romance” comics. Oskner died in 2007 at age 90.

I’m glad Blaze is alive. A lot different from her sister.

I’ll always remember Bob Hope’s USO shows, different glamour gals depending on the decade and his golf club.

Okay, thanks to Ray Toler, I now know that the artist was the late Bob Oksner.___________________________According to Wikipedia Owen Fitzgerald was the original artist on the Bob Hope series. He was later succeeded by Oskner who handled things in the late 50s and throughout the 60s. Neal Adams drew the final 4 issues when the series ended.

I believed Joe’s caricature was similar to the way Oskner drew Hope.

It occurs to me that Putty Puss could impersonate Purdy. Notta could be hatching a scam to make Bribery believe that Purdy has recovered.

Before he was frozen to death on the Moon, Purdy had stashed immesurable amounts of Moon gold in secret caves and mines on the Moon. Notta is likely privy to the location of these secret stashes but Bribery doesn’t realize that Notta knows. Consequently both she and Bribery would like to get back to the Moon. If Notta coud make Bribery believe Purdy has recovered, it would give her leverage to overthrow Bribery for the second time and claim the Moon gold for herself. Remember, it was Notta and her husband Chin-Chillar who threw Bribery (now Bribery’s double) out of the Space Coupe, killing him.

At this point, however, I do not believe either Bribery or Notta are aware that Moon Valley is deserted.

To all who took the time to research the Bob Hope comics: A big “Thank You” for taking the time to highlight an overlooked but interesting period of comic book history.

Just for fun: On the CK website, the colorist chose to color in the dialog balloons whenever Putty Puss sings a line of a song. They are a shade of pink.

Seems he would need to ditch the bracelet in order to avoid suspicion of his whereabouts.

There’s no indication of a bracelet aside from a speculation on this board. In fact, the Happydale officials may know that he’s going to see Notta. Certainly, that was the plan all along for both Putty Puss and Notta (and Blaze).

Knowing both sides of the whip makes her well rounded, or in this case beaten !

I was looking on Wikipedia earlier and there is something known as a switch either with different partners or within a relationship with one partner. It’s not that uncommon in this sort of relationship, apparently.

I’m not sure why Blaze would stay with Notta after Notta knocked Blaze out. Perhaps Notta knows something about Blaze that Blaze doesn’t want to get out and Notta has threatened to reveal it if Blaze leaves. It’s pretty evident from today’s strip that Blaze isn’t exactly happy to be with Notta.

A few comments on the just completed story: It started out looking interesting when the Apparatus was involved but deteriorated by shifting to Cuba. The plot seemed contrived just to highlight the 3 detectives. The crimes in the USA scoped out by Specs were dropped without resolution. So, are we to believe the Apparatus got away with these crimes? Anyway, I’m glad to see the shift to a new story with more personable characters. It’s only been 3 days but I like the way it is going. Glad to see Blaze back and okay.

Blaze Rise is an unaccountably attractive character. By all rights, she should be despised or feared, as a sometime professional assassin, part-time (afternoons only) professional dominatrix, and dispirited flunkie to Notta. But she seems so danged cute, and vulnerable! If only she were not a lesbian, one could envision her in the way VB has appropriated Rikki….

I think Mike said she is one. It’s kind of implied in the strip, though not stated explicitly. Her appearance is kind of “butch” which would be consistent with certain lesbians.

Like the way Abner got out of prison as “dead” ?

Yeah, he did. It’s not clear yet whether this is a plan for Putty Puss to escape, or whether Notta just has a “use” for him.

Bob Hope ended with #109. It appears that they put the covers in groups of (about) 50 and didn’t change the numbering on the link for the last section. Go up a level from Bob Hope and click on one of the other cover sections and you’ll see the same thing.

Putty Puss is impersonating and misquoting the legendary comedian Bob Hope and his signature song. Not that I blame Putty Puss (or even Mike Curtis) for misquoting the song because everybody misremembers it as “Thanks for the Memories” (plural) when it’s actually “Thanks for the Memory” (singular). Anyways, here’s the original from the film “The Big Broadcast of 1938” (guess which year it came out) sung as a duet with Hope and actress Shirley Ross:
