I was looking at the storm map of the bay areait looked liked a typical PNW day.In California they complained there was a droughtthen they complain when it rainsis anyone ever happy?
Agreed, but of course “a lot of rain after a prolonged drought” isn’t an unmixed blessing, if you get it all at once. Instead of constant (moderate) rainfall throughout the winter, we up north are getting violent storms late in the season, which leads to flooding (as well as other types of storm damage) and excessive runoff; if all this rain doesn’t replenish the reservoirs, it’s only short-term respite.
California runs 800 miles north to south (840 miles of coastline); if it were on the east coast it’d cover everything from Connecticut through South Carolina (roughly), and “How is El Nino affectingCalifornia?” has a very different answer in No-Cal than it does in Lo-Cal.
They, and we further north, need many more such storms, just preferably with colder temperatures and more snow to last through mid summer. The drought is actually more than seven years old in many areas of the west, not just five.

We had a drought in Washington state when it did not rain for a few months.
Lots of yard plants died because people got out of the habit of watering.
