While the media pretends the debates went to Rubio or Cruz, Trump is the one who actually goes up in the polls. More Republicans line up to get on the big ship. As he makes inroads among the establishment. He has brought aboard the people with no fealty to movement conservatism. Those who have nurtured a sustained rage at being betrayed or ignored by the right. Those who have been told that conservatism is good for them even as they watch the middle class crater around them. If Trump can win them over – he’ll succeed among the villager living in the crumbling outposts that conservatism has long abandoned. and with all the GOP misfits and rejects and non-elite on board will the rest of the party reluctantly join the historic cruise across the icy seas?
You declare that “[w]hile the media pretends the debates went to Rubio or Cruz, Trump is the one who actually goes up in the polls.”
I don’t know what media you are referring to, but I spread my attention across the diverse landscape on a daily, hour-by-hour basis. It’s part and parcel of what I have been doing for a professional living the last 36 years.
The phenomenon that you claim to be in effect—namely, the media supposedly misreporting Trump’s rise in the polls (despite his typically unstructured, unhinged, potty-mouthed, ad hom “debate” performances)—is a twisting of what is actually occurring in the world of domestic political reporting.
The media, on a regular basis, conveys the fact that Trump continues to rise in the polls regardless of his poor debating skills compared to those of his competitors. National opinion surveys designed to test the reaction across the country to Trump’s antics on stage (as contrasted against polls focusing on the response of hard-boiled Republican voters to his hilarious hysterics) indicate, with few exceptions, that he is not popular with most Americans.
