I was 19 and in college when the vote came up to change the legal drinking age in Michigan from 19 to 21. For several weeks before the vote came up several stores in the area had banners up in their liquer aisle pointing out to everyone that if the law was voted in then they wouldn’t be able to buy beer until they turned 21. As a Tea Totaler I had no problem voting to raise the drinking age and cheered when the bill won. Of course part of the reason why I’m a tea totaler is because of family history, my mother’s father died of alcohol poisoning when she was really young, and before she became a Christian and stopped drinking my own mother got drunk once and the result had long term affects on the rest of the family.
patlaborviI understand. The tendency is genetic, so my family has a divide between teetotalers and at least compulsive drinkers if not alcoholics. It’s just playing the odds. Also, my grandfather was the BofLE official who dealt with Rule G (no drinking 24 hours before a run) violations and it seemed that most of his work involved Rule G allegations.
