Some girl got expelled for giving a friend an ASPIRIN! Considered a drug at the school! Not even the nurse could hand them out without a lot of paperwork. I guess if you were dying, that would be it.

Just enforcing the Will of Your Parents as translated by a Local School Board with an “Anti-Liberalism” Agenda! They want smaller government but passed 50 new rules on backpack contents, hair do’s, dress code, lunch menus, etc., etc.!

Then there was the girl who got kicked out of school for drugs, after she was spotted giving herself an insulin shot.

A Zero-Tolerance policy means even if a child needs an inhaler to breathe they must keep it locked up and only administer it in the presence of a school official. there are 25 states currently that have laws specifying children must be allowed to carry their asthma drugs in class. Some acne medications are prescription and fall under the “all prescriptions must be ____” (locked up, signed in, not present etc.) The zero-tolerance policies see acne medication is like hydrocodone is like an inhaler – all drugs.usually for nail clippers it is the two-inch metal blade that puts these devices into the category of “weapon” because there is a zero-tolerance for weapons – these will get you booted out of school. Most of these rules have been affecting schools for 30 or more years – these are nothing new and stories go through the news cycles every year. The zero-tolerance policies are coming under fire in our courts (three strike rules and mandatory sentencing). We need more common sense – is this a good kid or a trouble maker? how are the grade? Does this child need help? Is there a real problem here? If a child is taught about the rules and continues to break them I can understand disciplinary actions. Even if you and I don’t agree with the rules, they are to protect the kids. But lets not expel this guy only on the grounds of these items.

Check out the blog put out by Randy Cassingham, who also puts out an e-mail newletter called This is True. He is also a volunteer EMT in his home state of Colorado, and a couple of weeks ago he ranted, which he rarely does, about this subject including stories of children who have died over this insanity. If I had a child who had a condition that needed medication and the school’s procedures resulted in my child’s death, I would push very hard for criminal charges to be filed in addition to suing the school board for every penny I could possible get as well as publicizing it everywhere, so everyone would know the school board members were murderers.
