“Magic” comes from the same root as “imagination” …

She will keep saying that until a giant octopus tentacle comes out of the pool and grabs her.

Unfortunatley, that’s what happens when we grow up. We lose our imaginations! Luckily, some of us still have imaginations and we can swim in a kiddie pool and have it be the ocean! Oh, youth, where did you go?

Puberty brings its own magic, and it’s a lot less benign.

    (But it has its compensations.)

From what I have read, octopi are intelligent, gentle creatures, who recognize individual humans and can make friends with them. It’s squid who are brutal, cannibalistic, etc.

And wasn’t it an octopus who predicted the winners of the World Cup (or some other international competition)?

and octopi use coconut shells as tools, carrying them around until they sense a predator coming, then hiding inside them.

That’s a medium-small octopus anyway! and he might just want to be friendly! After all, you can’t tell by the expression on the back of his head!

What is sillier: believing that a magic pool can give you fun all summer, or arguing with a 9yo & a 3yo about their summer games?
