They decreased the odds on top prize from 1 in 175 million to 1 in 292 million. The also increased the odds on winning the smaller prizes at the same time. The thinking being that people buy more tickets with a large top prize. They say it is working. They being the NY gaming commission, BTW
“The IRS gets over half the $$$$.”The top tax rate is 39.5%. If you’re “unlucky” enough to live in Hawaii, you get to the 50% mark for combined state & Federal taxes.Typical ignorance of actual tax rates from conservatives. It’s always, “I’m givin’ half my money to the IRS!!”
I used to play the lottery a lot more, before the odds got silly some years ago. The problem is the lottery commissions don’t understand what the big casinos understand. That is the fact that you’ve got to give the marks enough in winnings to keep them coming back, otherwise the only ones to consistently play are the ones addicted to gambling.
I’ve always considered spending money on gambling as throwing it down the hole so I only spend $2 at a time and it has been some time since I last bought a ticket.

“But how much does the school system get?”Probably not enough to teach kids from low income families not to spend money on lottery tickets.

Gambling is for chumps. If I make a “wager”, the fix is in.
