Just to be technical: Despite their skill at building compound words, German is an inflected language, meaning words are built from a stem plus an optional suffix plus an optional ending, as in English SING-ER-S. Agglutinative languages build words from a stem plus usually multiple affixes, as in Turkish or Korean.
