I had an Astronaut Snoopy! I think it was in 1970. I do know I was getting Space Oddity on the late night radio, working the skip from Chicago or somewhere.

While Dezik, Tsygan and Lisa weren’t the first dog on the moon, they certainly were the first dogs in space. Спасибо, CCCP.

Snoopy could say: “First living being on the moon!”But Armstrong also said something else.

The strip (and the ones that follow) commemorates the Apollo 10 lunar orbital mission in May 1969. The crew named their lunar module “Snoopy” and their command module “Charlie Brown.” Snoopy was flown to within 10 miles of the lunar surface.

For the Apollo 10 mission, the Command Service Module callsign was “Charlie Brown” and the Lunar Module callsign was “Snoopy.”

Apollo 10 was referred to as the “dress rehearsal” mission. They undocked in lunar orbit and Snoopy was flown to within a few miles of the lunar surface before rejoining Charlie Brown in orbit for the trip home.

The mission launched in May of ’69 – which is the copywrite year between the panels on this one.

I bought this figure from Hallmark years ago, was put out to celebrate NASA’s 50th, which would have put it back in ’08 I got it. Have enjoyed this arc for years, especially with what it ended up representing.

The soft communications headgear that all NASA astronauts wore under their helmets were black and white and called “Snoopy caps”. https://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/a11/a11.37_5528hr.jpg
