Mimi, trying to boost her Facebook stock by posting the roster online. That’ll bring the kids back. All 8 at last count.
You’re right Jethrine, after the carnage you’ve caused on this court Mop needs to wax this floor before opening night. and the way you’re sweating bullets, I’d be a dolt not to join you in a hot soapy shower.
I’d just like to call timeout to let everyone know that there will be no timeout called in today’s Mopped Up Thorp. But if I were to call timeout, I’d call it to wish everyone on this site a Happy New Year filled with hilarious comments, bad buns, and overall snarkiness!
P-4: Did I say dolt? I’ve been watching Into the Badlands, I meant Colt. How would you like to be my personal assistant, drink a few Colt 45’s and break me like a colt? Meet me after school, I bet you’d be really something if I started by oiling you down…tune in next week for the new and edgier Milford Place
I’ll add to the Happy New Year wishes. In honor of the new year, I just spent an hour looking back at past strips to see when people started commenting on Gil Thorp. The earliest comment I found was June 13, 2008 by JSloop. Sometimes, weeks go by with no comments and even on days with comments, there may be only one. We’ve come a long way since then. The earliest commenter I recognize is JPuzzleWhiz, though I haven’t seen him here lately. Anyone with more free time and ambition than I have should work his way backward from April 1, 2008 — that’s the last date I looked at consecutively. I did check March 1, February 1, and January 1 of that year but ran out of patience to keep looking at every day. GoComics started in 2006, so I guess it’s possible there were comments in the very early days, but someone else will have to tell us the answer to that question.
It appears sloop did comment on that date because it says “7 years ago” before his comment. sloop – if you’re still here, give us a shout! Although clicking on his profile shows he hasn’t commented on anything in the last 3 years, so might be gone.
I remember reading the Chicago Tribune Thorp site way back in 1999 — I believe it was called The Bucket. There was a pretty big group of regular commenters back then, although there was much more of a battle between folks taking the strip seriously versus those on the taunt and ridicule side. I think we’re more in agreement with each other here.
Ha – a search for Gil Thorp pages on Facebook yielded 2 results.“Gil Thorp Comic Strip: Official Group” has a whopping 6 members. There also is a “1,000,000 strong for firing Gil Thorp” which has an amusing description. 7 years old, total of 1 member.

Again, she’s a senior. The season will be over before she’s of any use.

“Gil Thorp” used to appear in The Washington Star, which stopped publication in 1981. Can anyone name some newspapers where it still does appear?

There’s another site I’ve checked out from time to time, but I’ve never quite gotten addicted to it like this site or MUT:
