Medical errors kill something like 40 times more people than do guns in the USA. Medical errors are the third leading cause of death in this country behind heart diseases and cancers.
Doctors, nurses, hospitals and pharmacists are more dangerous than AK47s.
I was almost killed in a VA hospital by the nursing staff who tried, for the first three shifts, to give me the medicines of the man who was in that bed prior to myself. To one of the medications I am deathly allergic and it will cause anaphylaxis and kill me within a very few minutes. The allergy is plainly marked in red in my medical records, too, and was on my chart. The nurses never looked to see if the medication sent down by the pharmacy was the right stuff for me. They just matched the order to the bed number. If I had not questioned them each time they delivered medication to me throughout my two-week stay, if I had been unconscious or drugged and unable to question them, I’d be a statistic and they’d have covered up my death at their hands.A doctor later on the next week I was hospitalized tried to prescribe a medication which was not cleared for my condition. He said he thought it would work. I rejected it and refused the drug when the nurses tried to administer it. I was being experimented upon without my informed consent. And this was not 40 years ago, either.
MMMM STRYK—wonder how all those tight gun control countries are doing these days, ie: Norway, Sweden, France, Belgium. You want gun control? Go be pompous in Canada or even go to Mexico. See if you can find a gun free zone there (and they do have tight gun control laws, (but enforcement eehh).
The Conservative Right, and especially those who participate in gun culture, are much less violent than liberals. CCW permit holders commit less crime than Law Enforcement. Most crime is committed by liberals, in Democrat controlled cities.
@hawgowar Hey wait! More people die from motor vehicle accidents than medical errors. So we should just ignore medical errors. Oh wait, even more people die from natural causes, so we should just ignore auto related deaths. Your logic is fallacious.
Many “conservatives” have touted the low crime rate in Singapore, and declared how great the government in that city state is as a model, but they tend to ignore the fact it’s illegal to chew gum and you can get caned or jailed for minor offenses we would ignore here.
Might also take a closer look at the fact that in those high gun ownership states, you’re more likely to get blown away.
On the Islam thing, might try reading the poetry of Hafiz or Rumi who lived much closer to the time of Mohammed and the real religion, instead of the more recent radicals and nut cases who’ve bastardized it. No, I still have serious conflict with many of the aspects of Islam, as with Judaism and Christianity in the more radical “fundamentalist” (read crazy) practitioners of the “bible religions”, notably the literally THOUSANDS of Christian sects and divisions, or the radical Orthodox Jewish community (check out THEIR dress codes), but it’s important to note that the extreme nut cases, in all these cases, are NOT THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE “FAITHS”!
That Americans are so good at over-simplification, might be associated with the fact that “simplification”, and “simpleton” are oft close associations.
Sueamarlucan: As a gun owner I’ve never branded all gun owners, it IS the nutcases and radicals I’m concerned with, and feel they should be disarmed. And no, it is not entire populations who should be judged by their most radical, just as Americans, and even Republicans shouldn’t be judged by Trump. As it should be noted that even among Republicans, roughly 70%, depending on the poll, do NOT support his lunacy.

The whole world sees us as gun crazy, like it or not.

The importance of gun ownership seems to be a function of where we live:

@jack75287-Hum… I think I’d better get my eyes checked. According to the information I read in that link, I think I’d be safer in Singapore.

Thanks for pointing that out.
