This is appalling. This is a child rapist. A man who drugged a 14-year-old and raped her repeatedly in multiple orifices despite her protests and repeated statements of “no.”
Not to mention that Polanski admitted guilt and then fled the freaking country before sentencing.
But some idiots think he’s suffered enough. Yeah, living in his palatial villa – real tough. And people are blaming the victim so much that she asked for this to be stopped. Sadly, justice doesn’t work that way.
Polanski certainly wasn’t an “innocent bystander”, but consider what Charlie Manson and his friends did to Polanski’s family and friends. (and the other family)
trout - two wrongs don’t make a right. Polanski had an unhappy childhood under the Nazis, too - does this entitle him to rape a fourteen year old and escape justice?
And Charlie Manson is *in* prison.
Polanski is a bit twisted, watch “Chinatown”, but in today’s society it might do again to reflect that Mary was 13 when she gave birth to Jesus, and even in the early 20th century, many girls were married by 13– “Child brides” are now condemned by us in foreign cultures, but Americans forget how recently that was OUR culture.
Cultural norms do change, and it is amazing to me so many good “Christians” condemn actions that were mandated by law in the Old Testament. (see stoning)
Bruce - that’s their excuse. They overlook the fact that Polanski is a fugitive from justice, who fled before sentencing.
Trout - she said no. Multiple times. Social norms notwithstanding.

There was a difference.

Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for your actions. The girl was 13, he knew it, end of discussion.
